To enjoy kiteboarding, you need to have the proper gear. First you need a kiteboard and some wind. When you engage in this relatively new sport, you will have plenty of eyes watching you glide across the water. Since those eyes are wishing they could do the same thing you can tell them on land how fun it is while sporting trendy gear at the same time.

Unless you are a pro kiteboarder, your gear probably won't be sponsored, you want to look for gear that fits you, and your board size is the most important. Also, if the kite is too tall you won't be able to control it very well. You need to know that kiteboarding is an extreme sport and not for the casual dare devil.

Being in shape is important, you don't need to look like a model on a fitness magazine but upper body strength is important. The wind does most of the work but if you have to swim for a period of time, you want to be fit enough for that aspect. Balance is the key and knowing how to kite your board out of danger is very important too. Most kiteboard rental places teach lessons before they let you out on the water alone.

The kites get the most attention since your board is mainly in the water. If you become an experienced kiteboarder then your board will be up in the air doing tricks such as kiteloop and people can witness the cool designs on your board. The gear you use says a lot about how serious you are on the water.

The standard board and life jacket are a must and adding some fineness to your gear is always fun. Make sure you have sunglasses with a strap, the minute you go down, so do your shades. Sunscreen is important too, you'll be having so much fun you'll forget about time. The straps on the board, or if they offer booties are designed to help you stay on the kiteboard. The bridle helps you to steer straight or turn in either direction.

There are some places that allow kiteboard rentals but since it's such as new sport, many insurance companies will not carry the rental place. You can buy used gear but you should test it thoroughly before purchase, any tear in the sail will cause limited sailing. New gear is expensive but if you want to invest in a sport that is new, this is the one to try.
