Jet Boat Rides A Popular Aussie PastimeSubmitted by temerity Sun, 12 Jun 2011
Australian's have a great affinity with water. Throughout the world, the people of the great southern land are known for their passion in 'the drink'. Whether it be surfing, fishing, or just swimming, Aussies love to get into water!
Australia has some of the best surf beaches in the world and recent champions Mark Occhilupo and Mick Fanning have proven we know how to match it with the hottest around the globe. Likewise, Australians medals at most Olympic Games are undoubtedly won in the pool. Ian Thorpe is a household name wherever you go. And it's a great Aussie tradition for a father to take his young son fishing, not only to help him enjoy the activity, but to learn lessons in life. So it's no surprise that another water activity is gaining immense popularity with the locals. Jet boat riding is being participated in by more and more people, both as a serious hobby and as an occassional pastime. Even in the cold winter months, lots of people are braving the elements and getting out onto the jet boats regularly. The Jet Boat Association of Australia was formed 40 years ago, so it's not a new activity. However with modern technology and more affordable prices it is attracting a lot more participants. Members of this association are quite serious, owning their own jet boat including models such as Rivercraft, Hamilton, Jetseeker and Phillon. The boating association offers members day trips, weekends away, maintenance tips, adventure boating and lots more. There is also a lot more interest in jet boats for the less frequent go-getters, with a marked increase in the number of bookings for commercial jet boat rides. The Melbourne Jet Boat company regularly takes people out on Port Phillip Bay for a high energy rush in their 640kg vessel. It can fit up to 12 people and reaches amazing speeds out across the open water. It's the perfect activity for people looking for an adrenaline rush that is safe and fun. It's also reasonably priced and if you're looking for a group activity with friends, it's worth trying. A number of companies are using the activity for corporate bonding. It is enjoyable and exciting for their staff and helps them take part in an activity together outside of work. Birthday parties and bucks nights are also events that choose jet boating as part of the festivities. If you're going out for a big night to celebrate something, nothing can put you in the mood to party more than a stimulating high speed experience on the ocean. New Zealanders have their bungee jumping, now it looks like Australian's are going to have their own high thrilled experience that they will become renowned for. Will you take the ride?
