Rock Climbing 101

Submitted by corrieduana

If you've seen rock climbing you'd know for a fact that the activity involves more than just guts to scale some 30 feet or more cliff face. You need to be at your peak of physical conditioning to perform the activity. You need utmost concentration as you edge your way upwards towards the ultimate goal of reaching the top. You need stamina and dedication, stamina to last until you reach the goal and dedication to reach the goal. And most of all, you need the basics of rock climbing, the styles and techniques that are compiled over years of rock climbing experience that has already become the dictum whenever rock climbing is concerned.

The basics of rock climbing are pretty straightforward yet could be missed or overlooked since rock climbing, after all, is not your average activity yet is also something that's commonplace. You might tell yourself that teaching a man to climb, the basics of rock climbing is quite redundant. Partly true yes, but take note that climbing, in spite of everything, takes skill in doing. As what we have discussed earlier, the basics of rock climbing contains the styles and techniques that are compiled over years of rock climbing experience.

The most important in the basics of rock climbing is that you need to be on your top shape. That is, you should be healthy enough to rock climb. This type of outdoor sport makes extensive use of your strength, so that the general feeling of weakness when you are sick or tired is a very big no-no. The same goes to potential factors that can break your concentration during a climb. This could include headache, stomachache, a deep wound somewhere...etc.

The next one is checking your capacity and capability for a rock climb. As you know, your digits play a primary role in rock climbing. Most climbers use chalk (placed on a pouch attached on the waist) to eliminate sweat. Grip savers are devices that help develop antagonist muscles, and prevent injuries you might sustain. You don't need much imagination to picture out what would happen if you tear your hand ligaments in the middle of a 50-foot climb. Climbing shoes might be unsuited for walking but they aid very much while climbing.

Free rock climbing is might be more attractive to you, but if you are still learning the basics, its best you accustom yourself with traditional rock climbing, those that use artificial aids and protection.

If everything were to be ideal, I would suggest learning every basics of rock climbing before even stepping foot on a rock climbing route. However, no one wants to wait practically forever so that they can begin rock climbing. And besides, experience is a big key in rock climbing.
