Safety Guidelines For Pocket BikesSubmitted by tonks21 Sat, 11 Oct 2008
Many people when they look at pocket bikes for the first time will see a children’s toy. It is true that children can ride them - but many adults enjoy them too. These mini motorcycles were built specifically for racing - but many people will perform cool tricks with them. Just because they are small does not mean that they lack any power. Many of these bikes are durable and able to reach as high as 75 miles per hour.
However, those who want this bike must first educate themselves with the important safety guidelines. Just because they are small does not mean that you cannot get hurt while using them. It is the same when you ride a bicycle you need to have important safety gear. Protective Pocket Bike Safety Gear The most important thing that you need to have is the right type of protective safety gear. This includes the proper clothing, helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, gloves, and shoes. All of these items need to be strong and durable and to cover the areas of your body that need to be protected the most. Make sure that they do not interfere with how you move and that your helmet does not block your vision. Possibly the most important gear that you need is your helmet. You will need to purchase a certified pocket bike helmet. In order to know which one is certified you need to contact Snell, DOT, or other helmet certification in your area. Each certified helmet will vary from state to state. Pocket Bike Safety Laws Because these bikes have become popular authorities have felt that it was important to set specific laws and guidelines to keep people safe. These pocket bike safety laws are different in different cities and states. To know what they are contact your local law enforcement agency or DMV and they can give you a list of regulations. Pocket Bike Age Limit While there is no specific age limit to pocket bikes many manufacturers urge that children under the age of 12 not operate them. Children 13-16 should always be supervised by an adult. Where Not To Ride Pocket Bikes These bikes were built specifically for racing and because of this we do not recommend that anyone ride them on the streets or sidewalks. In fact in many cities and states it is illegal to do this. When you ride them on the streets you can hurt those who are walking on it. It is most dangerous to ride them on the street because you are low to the ground and so small that most motorists will not see you and could run into you. About the Author
