Surf in Corpus Christi

Submitted by ArticleHulk
Wed, 4 Feb 2009

There are numerous attractions in Corpus Christi, Texas, which drive a ton of tourists to the area during the summer time. Among those include the aquarium, the battle ship, and the beaches. There is even a popular skate park in front of the hotels on Ocean Drive with a couple of large bowls and some gnarly jumps. But if you like to ride waves, then you're probably interesting in surfing some major waves in Corpus Christi. The city has some really fun water to play in if you know where to go.

And knowing where to go is a big part of the problem for many people who are visiting for the first time. The waves that are rideable aren't exact in Corpus Christi, but are just outside of it, in North Padre, the island just past Flour Bluff. Waves on "The Island" can get over head high and are usually waist to head high. They're a blast to ride as long as you have the right board and know where to go, and then if you know how to paddle out to them effectively.

Many local surfers enjoy riding the waves at the south side of Packery Channel and over at the Bob Hall Pier. Bob Hall is undoubtedly the most popular place because of the perfect waves that roll through and it's ease of access. Bob Hall is also the most popular place to simply hang out at the beach, so it follows that a lot of surfers are riding next to the pier. There are several other surf spots you should check out if you're in Corpus Christi this summer, especially since there may be waves at one spot on one morning, and not at another.

Taking the time to print out a map of surf spots for the area is worth several hours of driving around and asking for directions, and even more hours of paddling around and hoping for a wave where you're not likely to find one.
