F1 ready to split?Submitted by sitsolutions Mon, 6 Jul 2009
In a time of financial hardship on a global scale, advertisers have cut back on sponsorship for this truly great sport has taken somewhat of a knock as firms continue to lay off staff, downsize combine operations or close.
To keep the sport alive for the fans and to make it affordable to struggling manufactures and smaller teams, the FIA has introduced $40 budget cap for all teams. Frankly this has been a very responsible move by the FIA, it allows for the smaller independent teams to have a chance. The only way to win championships now are great drivers, a great team and of course great engineers. Is a truly competitive sport not one were the playing field is even, all teams start with the same money, the same technology and were a champion is truly a champion. Brawn has shown how small teams can challenge the financial muscle of F1. After Ferrari's dominance of the sport for so many years, and their millionaires playboy brand has been the force to recon with. But surely F1 is more than just Ferrari, Man Utd is bigger than Ronaldo, the tour de France will still survive when Craig Armstrong retires. This dominance and subsequent poor performances of late has encouraged Ferrari to lead the attack on the FIA over then new rules, and the European Automobile Association treat of a breakaway series has been seen as an attack of the FIA president. It is however very possible that Ferrari's other big competitors Renault, McLaren and Toyota will not fall into line with the FIA. The FIA's determination to cut cost and attract fresh blood could ultimately be its down fall. Is this years title all but wrapped up, is there anyone that can challenge Brawn.
