Arctic Grayling are recognized by their large upper fins, that open wide like a fan, depending upon where they live and water conditions such as algae, their large dorsal fin and the main and upper body area are usually bluish-silver or silvery shaded, and dotted with small dark spots, mixed amongst larger pinkish-red spots, making them a very colorful and pretty fish.

They inhabit numerous bodies of water, including streams, rivers and lakes and inland coasts. They prefer living in the deeper, colder areas of the bodies of water they inhabit, and are especially fond of areas that are clear or pristine, and contain numerous aquatic plants and rocks, to forage amongst. Depending upon where you live, and the water temperature, they usually spawn in the late spring months.

Arctic Grayling love to eat insects such as mayflies, and aquatic insects such as water beetles and others, they also enjoy feeding on crayfish, fish eggs, small fish such as chubs and minnows. Anglers fish for them by using fly rods and such lures as wet or dry flies, and streamers, or even traditional fishing poles and live bait, including worms and crayfish, they also often hit good on small spinners and other lures.
