Flying gift experience

Submitted by Emmaharris

New extreme sports are constantly being invented, whether it's leaping from rooftop to rooftop of tall buildings, strapping yourself to an elastic cord and hurling yourself off a bridge, or climbing a sheer cliff without a harness, there is always that select group of people who don't consider something a sport unless it includes an element of danger. As always, there are plenty of people who are happy to provide the adrenaline-junkies with what they want, be it a rock-climbing course, flying experience days or the bungee rope and a gentle nudge.

While flying days make an amazing experience for anyone, it depends somewhat on the vehicle propelling you through the air. Hang gliders and Para gliders are pretty bog standard for fly boys and girls, but a great start for those who are just learners in the world of extreme sports, or those without a lot of flying experience. Skydiving is much more adrenaline-fulled, but for those who couldn't imagine plummeting thousands of feet through the air, indoor skydiving is becoming increasingly popular: using a wind tunnel and a huge amount of air pressure, it's possible to simulate speeds equivalent to 100+mph. Isn't technology amazing? These are the kind of experiences that can live with you forever - making them great gift ideas that just keep on giving.

Of course, each of these sports comes with its own learning curve. Hang gliding trainers say it would take around ten days of flying in good weather to train somebody who originally didn't even know what a hang glider looked like to the level of Club Pilot, but a great gift idea would be a 2-day taster course, which would give the receiver a good understanding of the basics, as well as a limited Elementary Pilot certificate - a flying gift experience!
