Golf is a sport whose popularity is increasingly on the rise in India. In India there was a time when golf was the prerogative of only few English officers. The Game gradually became popular among large mass of people. The golf courses in India were initially built by the British officers. However, the trend they spawned is now becoming what can be termed as nothing less than a rage particularly in the elite circles. Commoners are also following suite.
What makes golfing in India exciting is the diversity of its courses. There are golf courses in the mountains, plains, deserts and at beach resorts. The environment of each course is unique in its culture and history, highlighting all that makes India a diverse destination. In fact, it would not be wrong to say that one of the best ways to experience India is through its golf courses! No wonder Golf Tours in India are a hit amongst the Golf enthusiasts. Of all the Golf Courses in India, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club has the unique distinction of being not just the first golf club in India but also the first to be set up outside the country of Great Britain. Some of the old golf courses in Delhi are inevitable parts of the Indian history. The Delhi Golf Club is one of the oldest golf courses in India. Right from the high altitude golf courses in Kashmir and Shimla to the ones in the plain lands of Agra and Noida to those in the beautiful beach destinations of Goa and Chennai as well as the ones amidst the tea gardens of Assam, there are different kinds of Golf Courses in India. The bustling metropolises of Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata are home to more than one golf course each. In fact places like Goa, Noida and Bangalore have resorts which have their own private golf course. Tourist destinations like Jaipur, Mysore, Ooty and Kodaikanal all have golf courses. The Asian Golf courses are well connected by road, rail, and air, and have excellent accommodation facilities. Golfing in India has come a long way, and a large number of Indian players now compete on the international circuit. Golf enthusiasts continue to grow in numbers, and new courses are added almost every year. Now India has a good number of 18 hole golf courses. The Indian Golf Union is taking necessary steps to improve the conditions of the golf courses so that the players are provided with everything that is necessary to take part in any international golf tournament. The Tourism boards and the Indian Golf Association are not leaving any stone un-turned to attract golfers to this part of the world. The golf courses of India can thus well familiarize us to the sundry flavors of this incredible nation.
