Lindsey Vonn - US Skier Heading for VancouverSubmitted by ScottDuglase Wed, 10 Feb 2010
US skier, Lindsey Vonn is a very busy woman. As one of the most successful female skiers in American history, and a true 5-discipline threat on the mountain, she's got a ton of racing ahead of her before she arrives in Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Lindsey Vonn boasts a skier's resume that is impressive by anyone's standards and includes 2 World Cup Overall titles, a couple of downhill titles, and a super G title. The list continues to grow almost race by race. Lindsey Vonn has kept herself busy, honing her skills in all five disciplines at events from Aspen to Zagreb, and she is poised to be at her best as she moves into her final months of preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympics. While most of her competitors will focus on one or two disciplines, Lindsey Vonn has set her sights on the ambitious goal of being an all-around winner, racking up impressive performances thus far in the Super Combined, Downhill, Super G, Slalom, and Giant Slalom. In 2009 alone, Lindsey Vonn locked up 9 wins and stood atop the podium no less than 16 times after impressive performances in 4 different disciplines. No doubt she is looking to ride this wave of success into the 2010 season. The next all important medals that will be up for grabs will, of course, be the gold, silver, and bronze awards doled out to Olympic skiers in Vancouver come February; and Lindsey Vonn intends to have a few of those hanging around her neck when it's all said and done. And by the look of her breakneck race schedule, Lindsey Vonn will arrive in Vancouver as a force to be reckoned with. Lindsey Vonn broke out of the gate in 2010 the same way she finished up 2009…fast and furious. She took the first two downhill races at Haus im Ennstal, Austria, winning her 15th downhill race since 2004 and bringing her grand total to 26 wins. The wins also helped her get back on top in the race for the Overall World Cup. She has a few more pre-Olympics tune up events on the schedule, including a Slalom race at Maribor, three events (Super G, Downhill, and Giant Slalom) at Cortinna d'Ampezzo, and 3 more races (Super Combined, Super G, and Downhill) at St. Moritz. Then she is off to Vancouver. Currently, Lindsey Vonn leads all other skiers in the Overall World Cup standings by 192 points, the downhill by 164 points, and the Super G by 95 points. While her closest competitors may see her strolling the streets of Vancouver with a humongous target on her back, Lindsey will be primed and ready to take on all challengers. She will use these Olympics to continue her quest to be the complete all-around skier. She is hoping for a strong showing each and every time she hits the mountain; and her race schedule will have her hitting it early and often. If you don't already know the name Lindsey Vonn, you soon will, my friend. You soon will.
Scott Duglase, an active sportsman, considers himself more of a ski fan than an actual skier. He is confident he couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Lindsey Vonn on the mountain, but is looking forward to her exciting race results in Vancouver 2010.
