Colleges are looking for the best players to recruit to their lacrosse teams, but that is not all they are looking for. Things like your academics and how you interact with other team members and the coaching staff will also play a part in lacrosse recruiting.

Lacrosse recruiting coaches will not only look at how well you play your position, but also how well you do in school. It is important to remember that you are trying to get admitted to a particular college as the first goal, with a secondary goal being that of playing on their lacrosse team. You will need to pass that first hurdle in order to reach the second. This being the case, spend time on your homework, and ask for help when you need it, in order to do as well as you possibly can in your high school classes. You will be turning in your high school transcripts to college lacrosse coaches, so a high GPA is a definite benefit to your lacrosse recruiting athletic goals as well. The SAT test is also an entrance requirement at most colleges, so schedule this test as early as you can in your junior year, take it, and see how you do. You can retake it, and use the better score, so retakes work in your favor.

Another step you can take to land a spot on a college lacrosse team is to attend lacrosse recruiting camps. Lacrosse recruiting camps offer several benefits to high school players wanting a sports scholarship. Anytime you are on or off the playing field at lacrosse recruiting camps, you have the opportunity to make an impression on other players and the lacrosse recruiting camps' coaches. You can make a great impression by being a good sportsman or woman, taking constructive criticism from the lacrosse recruiting coaches, and then being willing to try out new ideas so you can gain new skills. Even if you make some mistakes, that's okay, because coaches want to see how teachable you are, as well as how quickly you can catch on to new ideas and how easy you are to work with.

Activities such as lacrosse recruiting camps and tournaments also offer you the opportunity to meet college coaches. If college lacrosse staff meet you in person, it helps them to remember you, which is what you want. Lacrosse recruiting events also give you a chance to check out the college campus. This kind of information is invaluable in narrowing down your choice of college, so take advantage of it. Try to attend some classes, go to the library, eat some meals in the school cafeteria, look at the dorms, and see if you like the school.

All things being equal among excellent players, things like academics and personal interaction can be the deciding factors for lacrosse recruiting coaches in terms of who they pick, so use it all to your advantage.
