Punching Bags A few facts

When it comes to deciding what sort of punching bags you want to consider purchasing for yourself, it may be helpful to know that the most popular are the hanging punching bags. While preferred for numerous reasons, the two most prevalent are convenience and price. Not only are they reasonably priced, but they are relatively easy to install. Typically, these bags come with support chains and swivels so you do not have to buy them separately. Some include a bottom ring in case you prefer to tie them down to the floor. When you decide where you want to use your punching bag, this gives you some leverage.

Punching bags are typically made from canvas, leather, and vinyl. They are also available in a variety of weights. These include 30, 50, 60, 75, 100, and 150 pounds. The lower weights of 30 and 50 pounds are made mostly for children but a lot of people involved in traditional martial arts also use them for hand training. The heavier 65 and 75 pound bags are the ones that most adults choose who need something for foot and hand strikes. Kickers and heavy hitters need at least 100 pound punching bags. If you are into Thai boxing, the 150 pound bags are quite popular, but they also cost the most ranging from $200 to $300 as a starting price.

The simplest method to use in deciding which bag is going to be the best one for you is to talk to an expert. Someone like a boxing trainer will be a goldmine of information, and will be thrilled to share his or her knowledge with you. If you have a local martial arts shop, visiting there is a great idea. They usually have everything you need to excel in the martial arts, including punching bags. Take some time to chat with the sales people there and you will probably leave with all the answers you need.

Dave Toub is a strong believer in quality punching bags. Please check out one of my favorite punching bags and see the Punching Bags Pro homepage if you are interested in other gear as well.
