Repeating as champion will be biggest challenge for Lakers in next NBA seasonSubmitted by Sara J Thu, 18 Jun 2009
Even this early the incoming 2009-2010 National Basketball Association is already exciting with the entry of new faces through the NBA draft and the incoming off-season moves to be undertaken by the 30 NBA teams.
Aside from the rookies and the new transactions to be undertaken by the NBA teams to make their franchise stronger, the composition of the Los Angeles that will defend their NBA crown is also another thing that excites basketball fans around the world. According to the basketball experts, to repeat as champion will be the biggest challenge the Lakers will face in the next NBA season with the expected stronger line-ups of the other NBA teams. To be competitive next season, the Lakers need to have a healthy a Kobe Bryant in its line-ups along with its superstar center Pau Gasol and veteran point guard Derek Fisher. The Lakers also need to do their best to resign and bring back versatile big man Lamar Odom and athletic forward Trevor Ariza next NBA season to make the team even more competitive and give itself higher chances of repeating as champions. Of course, aside from its core players, the Lakers management also need to convinced hall of famer basketball coach Phil Jackson to return as bench tactician of the fabled franchise, which already won 15 NBA crowns since it joined the league. If ever the Lakers get its core players back and Jackson in the fold, there is no doubt they will be part of the top teams in the next NBA season. Expected to challenge the Lakers next season are the powerhouse in the NBA Eastern Conference lead by the 2009 NBA season runner-up Orlando Magic, who themselves face the daunting task of resigning its top players Hedo Turkoglu and back-up center Marcin Gortat and 2008 NBA season champion Boston Celtics who is expected to have superstar power forward Kevin Garnett back in its roster after suffering from an injury. In the Western Conference expected to give the Lakers a run for their money in the next NBA season are Western Finals runner-up Denver Nuggets who will have a stronger and healthier team lead by its superstars forward Carmelo Anthony and point guard Chauncey Billups and Houston Rockets who will once be lead by its superstar center Yao Ming and its high flying but injury prone forward Tracy Mcgrady and versatile guard Ron Artest. The teams San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns are also touted to figure prominently in the next NBA season.
