Types of Lycra FabricSubmitted by fish3006 Wed, 17 Feb 2010
Cotton and Lycra
One of the fabrics is blending 10 percent lycra with 90 percent cotton. This combination is just right for the manufacture of ladies' panties, bras, sleepwear, undershirts, and compression clothing and gear. The combination make it ideal for manufacturing T-shirt because the lycra prevents the cotton from shrinking which helps shirts maintain there original shape and also makes them wrinkle free. Wool and Lycra Wool for suiting, hunting sweaters, pants, etc is made with one percent lycra. With the one percent lycra it does not change the look of the wool, but does allow the fibers to stretch more than they would have been able to without the man-made fiber. Wool clothing and gear made with lycra will fit more comfortably because they will "give" in areas of strain and will resist wrinkles. This means that wool/lycra blends used in suit pants will not sag in the set or knees and will not wrinkle. Clothing made of wool and lycra should be dry-cleaned. Silk and Lycra Pure silk has almost no elasticity and it wrinkles easily. The addition of 3 to 5 percent lycra does not change the look of silk, but makes it more comfortable to wear by giving it more stretching movement. Lycra helps the clothing defray the serious wrinkling of pure silk.Silk/Lycra clothing may be dry-cleaned or hand washed with a gentle soap made for delicates, then dry on low. Linen and Lycra Linen, is expensive, and wrinkles vary easily and is a little rough against the skin. When 5 percent lycra is added to the linen, it softens the fabric and allows it to stretch and return to its original size and shape, it also resist wrinkles. The clothing made of linen and lycra can be put in the washer set on "delicates" and dry on low.
