Intro to Fantasy Basketball

Submitted by security
Thu, 5 Oct 2006

Fantasy basketball gives basketball fans an opportunity to experience what it is like to manage their own team. If you are usually a back-seat driver during the basketball season, now is the time to enforce your own decisions when it comes to trading and drafting by creating your own fantasy team.

First you need to come up with a name for your fantasy team. You can ch0ose any name you wish, but most owners tend to choose a name that is fun. In the end it doesn’t matter but it is important to pick a name that is easy to remember and easily identifies your team.

If you don’t already have a league in your area you will need to start one. Leagues don’t have to have a set number of teams. While some leagues have just a few teams, others may have a dozen or more teams. If need to start a league, try asking friends, family and co-workers to come aboard your league.

Once you square away the league, you need to give thought to how you want to play. With fantasy basketball there are two main styles; head to head and rotisserie. Head to head is a style with the teams going head to head with each other, the team with the most points wins. With this style each team plays a different team each week during the regular season. Rotisserie style of play the standings are picked by each teams performance in several different categories. The categories are made up of assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, team points and more

When designing your new league you will need to give thought to the type of play. While also making sure you have your line-up posted each and every week during the playing season.

To win at fantasy basketball it is important to be as prepared as you possibly can. You can’t just wing it, well you can’t wing the win that is. Being prepared includes posting the line ups, keeping up on the health of their players so they can put in a backup if need. Keep backups available and ready at all times so you won’t get caught off guard.

Taking the time to do your research and homework beforehand and to understand as much as possible about fantasy basketball will help you to be better prepared to win and do well during the season and during the playoffs.
