Choose A Quality LCD Flat Screen TV From One Of These Two From Hitachi and Sharp.

Now available in all types (and colours), television sets have certainly changed over the years moving on from cathode ray to digital and now LCD TV sets that we assume to be the norm today. Perhaps it is a rather sad indictment on our times to find that when asked about essential items, quite a few people will list their TV set.

Much like the conventional approach to driving a car and our understanding of how the Internal Combustion Engine works (or not depending on your point of view) very few people understand entirely what happens behind the screen of a TV or do they? The term television can actually be quite confusing because it can quite easily be used to refer specifically to a television set, programming or television transmission.

Like most forays into a technical arena nowadays it is very easy to get confused by the wide range of technical phrases and terminology in use within the industry today.

Rather than continue with a basic history of the industry, it might be best to stop and take a look at the latest developments within the industry mainly that of digital television, what digital television actually means, its formats, bandwidth and the technical terminology and jargon used today.

So an accurate definition of Digital TV is what? Whereas traditional analogue technology and television was reliant upon transmission of its pictures and sound files via analogue channels newer digital television handles all of its broadcasting and transmission via digital signals which are much smaller, use up less bandwidth and are more accurate.

So what is it exactly that we have to look out for with a Digital TV? Let us use one of the newer LCD TVs available to help us as we detail what exactly this all means.

When considering a new Digital TV it would help if you were familiar with the following items of information.

The Screen resolution of the TV is possibly the most obvious place to start. In this case it refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed.

Next up is whether the TV is Hi-Definition Ready and what does this mean? Hi Definition TV essentially makes a TV picture in a quality format that is at least four times better than conventionally available at present.

The next item that we would need to look at is what types of connectors are used between the peripherals used alongside the main Digital TV?

We are referring here to the exact nature and number of the Scarts Sockets and Plugs in use. SCART stands for Syndicat francais des Constructeurs dAppareils Radio et Television (SCART).

The final item we would look at would be what is the nature and number of the High-Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMI) being used. Here High Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMI) refers to the audio/video connector interface that transmits the uncompressed digital streams of information between two or more digital components such as a HD DVD Disc player, a Blu-ray Disc player, a Personal Computer or Video Console.

The first LCD TV that we recommend that you take a look at here is the Hitachi 32LD9700

The 32LD9700 is a 32in LCD TV the prices for these are around 1000 pounds sterling or 2000 US dollars. The resolution of the screen is 1366 X 768 and with regards to being HD ready the answer is yes. The Hitachi has 3 (2 RGB) scarts and the type and number of multimedia interfaces the the 32LD9700 uses is HDMI also 2. The type of tuner for this TV is Analogue also Digital and the Hitachi 32LD9700 is available from a wide number of outlets..

So how would we rate the Hitachi 32LD9700? Initially we would take a look at the picture quality and as such our score for this would be 10 out of 10, and closely tied in to the picture quality is the sound quality and our score for this would be 10 out of 10. Connectivity is important for most of these new media TV Sets and such our score would be 8 out of 10 . As far as overall features are concerned we would give it 10 out of 10 and with regards to ease of use and overall value for money our opinion and score would be 10 along with 10 out of 10 respectively..

The overall verdict would be WOW what can you say but that this is one of those TV's that excel in almost every thing it is supposed to do. Described as a "Superb All-rounder", there is not much that this TV does not achieve. If you can get your hands on one of these then go for it.

Next we recommend that you look at the Sharp Aquos LC-37GD1E

The LC-37GD1E is a 37in LCD TV with the prices for these are around 3500 pounds sterling or 7000 US dollars. The resolution of the screen is 1366 X 768 and with regards to being HD ready the answer is yes. The Sharp has 3 (2 RGB) scarts and the type and number of multimedia interfaces the the LC-37GD1E uses is DVI also 1. The type of tuner for this TV is Analogue as well as Digital and the Sharp Aquos LC-37GD1E is available from limited outlets only.

So how would we rate the Sharp Aquos LC-37GD1E? Initially we would take a look at the picture quality and as such our score for this would be 10 out of 10, and closely tied in to the picture quality is the sound quality and our score for this would be 10 out of 10. Connectivity is important for most of these new media TV Sets and such our score would be 10 out of 10 . As far as overall features are concerned we would give it 8 out of 10 and with regards to ease of use and overall value for money our opinion and score would be 8 and 8 out of 10 respectively..

Finally our overall opinion would be This is one of those top of the range LCD TVs that is well capable of beating Plasma displays at their own game and would appear to be another winner from Sharp and yet another great product in their Aquos range. That having been said it is still slightly on the expensive side.

It is essential to remember that the prices we use in these reviews are guides and are taken as an average across the industry and it is entirely conceivable and possible to find an occasion when you could be met with prices that are cheaper but also on occasions more expensive.
