Fuji Xerox Australia and The Roads and Traffic AuthoritySubmitted by analogik Wed, 26 Aug 2009
Fuji Xerox Global Services was presented the challenge of finding a cost-effective solution for the outdated collection of printers, facsimile machines and photocopiers owned by the Roads and Traffic Authority in New South Wales. To meet this challenge Fuji Xerox Global Services provided the RTA with a solution that included multi-function devices and a service contract that was set up beneath a charge per impression strategy. This plan resulted in millions of dollars in savings and a 25% energy use reduction and a 13 tonne lessening of carbon emissions. In the future, the RTA also has plans to reduce paper consumption with the workflow improvements that have been made available through this new service package.
The challenge presented to Fuji Xerox Global Services involved an agency that is responsible for testing and licensing of drivers, registration of vehicles, managing the New South Wales road network and most importantly, improvement of road safety. These responsibilities necessitated the use of an assortment of over 2,100 machines that were supplied by different manufacturers; all of which had different service contracts. The frustration among the 6,900 employees caused by things such as differences in device maintenance contracts, service provision and technical support was more than evident. To add to the challenge, all government agencies in New South Wales are not permitted to have any capital expenditure on their service contracts. The final issue to be resolved was that the RTA also wished to limit its environmental impact through the utilisation of equipment that was designed for best practice environmental standards. Fuji Xerox Global Services met these challenges by providing much needed equipment upgrades and machines that are serviced and supported under one contract; all of which is covered by a pay per impression rate. The first component of the solution was simple: The RTA needed an equipment upgrade. This upgrade consists of a fleet of multi-function devices that handle the day-to-day facsimiles, copies and printouts. The newer machines also operate with greater energy efficiency, thus providing a lower impact on the environment. Finally, with the price per copy contract in place, the RTA sees a substantial cost savings of some four million dollars over a 60-month period. By providing a solution that meets the needs of its client, Fuji Xerox Global Services is able to help the RTA to achieve its objectives and concentrate on the needs of the drivers in New South Wales.
