Handheld Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer

Toronto, Canada - GAO Fiber Optics (www.GAOFiberOptics.com ) has released its handheld optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) intended for Fiber-To-The-x (FTTx) network testing. It measures the physical characteristics of fiber including length, transmission and splice loss and locates faults or breaks and performs visible fault location (VFL). The compact OTDR can be used in the manufacture, construction and maintenance of optical fiber communication systems. This OTDR belongs to GAO's OTDR family of products.

This rugged OTDR, model 6416, offers optional wavelengths of 1310, 1550, 1625 and 1490 nm at an accuracy of ±20 nm. It features a short event dead zone of 1.6 m, a high resolution of 0.25 m, 65535 sampling points and a long operating time of more than 10 hours on a single charge. It performs fast auto measurements with one-button operation and provides a maximum distance range of up to 256 km. The OTDR has a memory capacity of 800 traces. This optimized OTDR provides dual USB interfaces accepting both USB stick and direct cable download to a computer via included software. The lightweight OTDR is equipped with an advanced anti-reflective TFT LCD for clear view. It operates under Win CE OS and is compliant with Bellcore GR196 file format for file management.
