How to Pick the Best PDA or Smartphone for YouSubmitted by admin@bestpdadeals.net Fri, 10 Jul 2009
With the sea of PDA and smartphone choices, you may be wondering how to decide which one to purchase. You will need to consider what you intend to do with the device before making your choice.
If you need to access your employer's network, ask what devices are allowed as many companies limit their access to particular brands or models. You may also be required to use certain applications such as a specific email program which may also drive which equipment is an option for you. You will also need to consider your connectivity needs. You will probably want to sync your data with a computer in which case, are you planning to use a cable or Bluetooth? Do you need WiFi? Will your device function as access to the internet for your laptop? If so, you will want to find out the charges for this and what software possibilities are available for the different devices. Do you want an all-in-one device? A cheap cell phone and a PDA can be cheaper than getting the smartphone, especially if you are required to sign up for a data plan that you don't need. Plus, you will more than likely be locked into a contract with the carrier. Is entertainment important to you? You will want to pick a device that works with your software. For example, an iPhone would be the best choice if you are an iTunes fan. If you prefer MP3s, then a device with an MP3 player would be preferable. Do you depend on certain software? You will find that all applications are not available for every manufacturer, and even those that are made for various platforms may not function the same on a different device. Unfortunately, you may find that some programs do not have decent equivalents if you switch to a different brand. Have you spent a fortune on accessories like chargers, headphones, etc.? If so, you may want to look for a device that will work with what you have to avoid having to purchase new accessories. Do you plan to access the internet or download email wirelessly? If so, you will need a data plan which will cost extra. If you don't need these features, you may not want to get a smartphone since you are often required to get a data plan from the carrier. Think about how you like to enter data into a device, and try your hand at using different methods on actual devices. You'll find models with various QWERTY keyboards, virtual keyboards, touchscreens, and styluses. Not all options work well for everyone. For example, a keyboard may not work well if you have large fingers. Before you go out shopping, decide what features are important to you. Then, you will be able to pick the best PDA or smartphone for you.
