Mobile Or Cable, And Broadband Comparison Sites: Things To Do When You're Thinking Of Switching

With a multitude of broadband packages on the market these days and companies having to work extra hard to draw custom, you could be tempted by switching from your current internet service provider (ISP) to another that is offering an enticing rate for new customers. Before you do, though, it is worth contacting your current provider and asking them if there is a better deal available for you to move on to, as providers will often offer impressive discounts to customers in order to retain them. It is well worth trying.

If there is no better deal available, or you simply do not wish to offer your current provider your custom anymore, it is important that you check your contract end date, as early termination could result in a disconnection fee. This charge could cover the broadband line rental for the remaining months of your contract, so the closer to the end date the better. If you are at the end of your contract or are willing to pay for cancellation of your current contract, you should request a MAC code to enable your switch to go more smoothly.

A MAC code (Migration Authorisation Code) allows your new ISP to set up your new service without a break in your connection, meaning that you do not have to play host to an engineer or wait for the new service to go live. ISPs have a legal duty in supplying this code. If you do not receive it within five days of the request, then it is recommended that you report the company to Ofcom, the trade's regulatory body.

To find a new ISP, it is advisable to spend some time visiting independent broadband comparison sites. As well as collecting up all the deals offered by reputable ISPs in one simple to navigate place, they also provide advice and guidance on your rights as a broadband customer and what to do to ensure that switching broadband providers is as pain-free as possible.

If the process raises any questions or you find the whole thing confusing due to the constant use of acronyms and 'tech' speak, these comparison sites also provide substantial 'Frequently Asked Questions' (FAQ) sections, where you can find the solution to any issue that is causing you a headache.

So if you want to know what ADSL means, or you would like to find out what I-Plates and micro filters are, plus what effect they would have on your connection speed; you should consult a broadband comparison site. By boosting your knowledge of broadband offers and industry terminology, you stand to decrease the likelihood of signing up to a deal that is not right for you and increase your chances of saving some money.

Whether you need information about your MAC transfer code or you are looking for the best broadband & phone deals to suit your needs, Broadband Choices offers comprehensive and impartial advice on all things internet and broadband related.
