Technology has turned this vast world into a village. These days, talking with friends or relative who are living overseas is not a big issue. Now, we are quite accustomed to make calls across the globe. So, if you have an acquaintance in Nigeria, you can call that person easily. As the service has become a common one, more providers are coming up with it. This competition has kept the price under a very reasonable limit. Now if you have a family or friend in Nigeria, you don't have to worry. The modern technology will keep you in touch with them.

Now, there are two basic ways through which you can make the calls - the traditional land lines and the trendy mobile phones. With the rise of the mobile phones, it is likely that you prefer this to the former option.

But, it is a puzzle that making international calls from landlines costs less than the mobile phones. It is a puzzle indeed, because the major part of the world now uses wireless technology as the premier means for telecommunications. Still, if you are making a call to Nigeria from your mobile phone, you will be charged with a high per-minute cost. Same holds true for other overseas calls as well. In fact, this is one reason why many people have retained their landline connection even in this heyday of mobile phone.

However, the reason of this cheaper rate in the landlines has a deep root. This is basically an old technology established decades ago. Over the years, different technologies have evolved and applied to make the international calls more precise and effective through the land line. Now, for the last two decades or so, the attention has shifted to the wireless technology. As a result, the investment in improving the landline technology has reduced drastically. Subsequently, the charges for the international calls here have reduced as well.

The mobile phones, on the other hand, have become the order of the day. Every one is using it. In fact, one of the major reasons of its popularity is its constant evolution. Everyday, a new technology is coming out to enrich the sector. This needs a lot of investment and the users are paying that through the bills.

Another major reason behind the cheaper call rates in the land lines is the age of the technology. This is a very common concept. Whenever a new technology comes out, it is attached with high price tag. As the time passes, the price of the technology starts to descend. The advent of a newer technology aggravates this downfall. The same thing has happened with the land lines as well. The advent of mobile phone has outshined this older technology. Naturally, its price has fallen as well. This can be compared to the rate of dial up internet connection that became much cheaper after the introduction of the broadband connections in recent times.
