Nokia N97, beating Android phones before they came out!Submitted by David Salt Tue, 25 Aug 2009
The industry doesn't always play fair. In fact, the industry always plays dirty, then pays everyone to talk about fair play. Well, they didn't pay me for that, so I will tell some truth. Nokia N97 is what Android phones were supposed to be. Android platform phones were made more than a year ago, but only the developer version of the phone was made. It had some problems, like the camera and design, but with those two solved, it would have been the undisputed champion of smartphones. So Nokia and Apple and Microsoft pulled some strings together, sworn enemies on one front uniting against Google Android phones being produced. Apple thought it's iPhone would easily win over the remaining two, Microsoft is fighting for the market position of the worthless Windows Mobile phones, and Nokia just recently completed the response which will keep it in the lead.
They call it N97, and it has a touch screen, not a multi touch screen like the iPhone, but a touch screen with good software support, sensors for iPhone like orientation changing and compass functions, a slide out full qwerty keyboard, a 5 megapixel camera and 32 GB of memory inside. It also has a new feature only seen on the Nokia Internet tablet before, to create the menu of the phone yourself from web active elements which show current information from your e-mail, facebook, messengers and rss feeds. The web browser is great, and it is somewhat faster than that in iPhone, perhaps because the whole phone is more powerful. Even when compared to the new Android OS, the new N97 Symbian seems more powerful, because it's applications can use the whole 128MB of ram it has, as opposed to 32MB an application can use on Android. In fact, it is the most powerful phone on the market. And it is prettier than iPhone. And it can play media without iTunes. The only drawback is no flash for the camera, and some people would like to be able to record HD video with it as well, but they had to leave something for the next model, or you wouldn't ever need to buy other Nokia mobiles. It makes PDAs look silly. It even makes netbooks look silly.
