Shoppers Guide to Buying 42" LCD TVsSubmitted by John Lewis Thu, 25 Mar 2010
An excellent addition to any home entertainment system or living room is a LCD TV. Of all high definition televisions, LCD TVs provide viewers with the clearest and highest quality picture.
The first consideration to make when purchasing a TV is what size television you want. Overall, the most popular sizes for LCD televisions are 32 inches, 37 inches, and 42 inches. To determine which size would be best, you need to consider your room size. If you are purchasing the television for a smaller room, where you will constantly be sitting and standing near the TV, you may want to select a 32 LCD TV. If you are purchasing the TV for a larger media room where you will constantly be 8 or more feet from the TV, then you may want to select a 37 LCD TV or a 42 LCD TV. As far as value goes, the best price per inch normally comes with larger screen televisions. Another consideration to take when purchasing a LCD TV is what manufacturer you want. The most popular manufacturers of LCD televisions are Panasonic, Samsung, and Sony. Panasonic televisions, Samsung televisions, and Sony televisions are always among the best selling because of their history of building the highest quality televisions at an affordable price. The third consideration to take when purchasing a LCD TV is the television's contrast ratio. A television's contrast ratio is a brightness measurement that compares the range of brightness between the lightest possible colour and the darkest possible colour. In general, the higher the contrast ration you can get, the better the picture will be. If you select a LCD TV with a low contrast ratio, white and black images on your screen will appear a bit muddied. Furthermore, high contrast ratios help fight off the impact that the sun's glare can have on your TV. The resolution of the picture is also quite important. The resolution, which is normally expressed as 720p or 1080p, is a measurement of how many pixels the screen has. The more pixels that a television has, the clearer the picture will be. However, televisions with more pictures and a higher resolution often cost more than televisions with lower resolutions.
