If you've ever thought about flying your pet on a private air charter but wondered if it was crazy, think again. According to a survey done by private jet charter company, OneSky Jets, pets fly on about one quarter of all the company's charters. Even more surprising, 15% of clients say flying pets privately is their No. 1 reason to charter!

The release says "regulars" who might be taking a ski trip to Aspen or heading for a winter vacation in Palm Beach will frequently fly their dogs in the adjacent seat on the Gulfstream. One example, from the release, is a couple who flies their two dogs between their homes in New York and North Dakota about four times per year. And, OneSky says, it isn't unusual for a client to want their pet flown privately, unaccompanied by human passengers.

Why book Fluffy on a private air charter? Aside from not wanting to part with pooch, of course, (after all, who wants to leave their furry friends in a kennel or with strangers when you can just as easily take them along?) safety issues and restrictions by the airlines make it challenging to do so on commercial flights. Most find it difficult to impossible to squeeze them into passenger cabins and authorities will only allow them in holds when the outside temperature is amenable. And, worse, there have been reported deaths.

Let's face it, rational or not, most of us love our dogs just like they're people - some of us even think of them as our kids! You wouldn't risk your loved ones on transportation that may cause them harm, so why risk your pet? If you've been thinking about flying Fluffy, then you might consider private air charters for your convenience. Your precious pooch need never leave your side. And s/he will be treated like a part of the family he is while traveling in safety and comfort.
