Celebrity Solstice Brings Celebrity Cruises To A New Height

Submitted by rwitman

By Roy Witman

According to the dictionary, "solstice" is defined as "the longest day of the year or the shortest" or as "a culminating or turning point." Celebrity's entirely new Solstice class is, without question, a turning point for the line. The inaugural ship in the class - self-titled "Solstice" - is the first new ship launched by Celebrity Cruises since 2002 and promises an abundance of new amenities, decors, entertainment options and accommodations.

A Whole New Look

From the moment you lay eyes on Solstice, you know it's different. The sculpted hull and ship's structure offer an entirely new look than ships of the past. While first impressions are important, we all know it's what's on the inside that counts. Solstice does not disappoint with its décor.

Minimalistic and contemporary, Solstice has clean lines inside and out. From the sleek, frosted bar of the Martini Bar and Crush to the open, airy feel of the restaurant Blu there are wonders around every corner. Staterooms and suites deliver environments similar to exceptional hotels with styling well suited for every taste. From standard balcony staterooms at 170 square feet to the new AquaClass cabins with 192 square feet, you'll feel right at home.

New AquaClass Category for Spa Lovers

One of the most talked about features is Celebrity's new AquaClass category. This level of veranda accommodations was designed for those who relish a day spa-type experience and grants unlimited access to the newly designed AquaSpa relaxation room, the Persian Garden (an exotic steam room equipped with aromatherapy options) and exclusive, complimentary dining in Blu restaurant offering inviting and healthful cuisine. One hundred thirty AquaClass cabins will be available on Solstice.

The Family Veranda stateroom is also new to the solstice class ships. Measuring a generous 753 square feet, these accommodations offer a separate bedroom and living room, foldout sofas and an alcove capable of housing twin bunk beds.

Guest-Inspired Features

In addition, Celebrity has implemented many new guest-inspired features, specifically developed using input from previous guests. Among the many additions is an increase in veranda rooms. According to Celebrity officials, "A full 85 percent of all staterooms onboard Celebrity Solstice will have verandas, and all staterooms will be equipped with flat-screen TVs, smarter storage and closet space, spacious bathrooms, and plush European bedding. The ship will offer wireless Internet access throughout."

Nights Don't Seem So Short On Solstice

Although its name implies long days and short nights, Solstice offers enough bars and lounges to entertain passengers from dusk til dawn. With eight new nightspots onboard, guests will find several venues that they love. Among some of the highlights are:

· Cellar Masters - This wine bar will offer wine enthusiasts the option of enjoying their favorites by the glass or the bottle. In addition, wine-tasting programs are schedule throughout the cruise so even novices can brush up on their knowledge and appreciation of fine wines.

· Ensemble Lounge - This jazz club offers exceptional music in addition to cocktails.

· Quasar - A ‘60s and '70s themed bar has a décor to match its music.

Of course, an onboard casino, martini bar and other favorites will be standard on Solstice.

Where To?

Celebrity Solstice is slated to make her maiden voyage December 14, 2008, on a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise. Ports include San Juan, Puerto Rico; Basseterre, St. Kitts; and Phillipsburg, St. Maarten. An alternate itinerary will dock in San Juan, Puerto Rico; Phillipsburg, St. Maarten; Tortola, B.V.I.; and Labadee, Haiti.

Celebrity Solstice will be joined by three other 2,850-passenger vessels including Celebrity Equinox (2009), Celebrity Eclipse (2010) and a fourth ship in 2011.
