It is important to choose the right RV for you. Whether you should invest in a luxury fifth wheel, a travel trailer or a simpler camper depends on your travel plans. The choices available to today's RV buyer are vastly different from the motor homes of the past. The top of the line models some fully equipped with all of the luxuries of modern life. It is even possible to live full time in them and, in fact, some happy RV owners have chosen to do just that.

Whether you are looking for a full time home or you are looking for a vehicle that will allow you to pack up and head out for the weekend picking the right one for you and your family is important. Making this decision is based on two things: where do you like to go and how do you like to travel. Let's look at destinations first.

Where do you like to travel?

Getting close to that action - whether it is a major sporting event, a political rally, or a theme park - is the goal of many RV owners. If you want to arrive with lots of friends, set up and start the tailgate party, a luxury fifth wheel or travel trailer is going to be the best bet. Many are designed with multiple beds and additional sleeping options like pull out couches. Slide-out compartments add extra interior space for entertaining friends.

If you plan to head out with just the family but still want the conveniences of home there are many mid-sized travel trailers available. Most of these have many of the same amenities as the larger models. They are simply smaller and offer fewer sleeping options. They are perfect for smaller families who like to head out for big events with little fuss.

For travelers who like to spend their down time away from the press and bustle of modern life, simpler campers make the perfect solution. If the perfect get-away for you is a state or national park a towable camper offers everything you will need. With a variety of options package from a bare-bones bed-and-hot-plate set up to bigger trailers with kitchens and showers, there is most certainly a camper out there for you.

How do you like to travel?

For many new RV buyers the romance of a rolling home can blind them to the realities of living on the road. It is important to think about the sort of lifestyle you are accustomed to and what you will expect while away from home. Do you need a couple of hours of TV to unwind at night? Do you expect a fully cooked meal and a glass of wine at dinner? Have you ever complained to a hotel about their concierge service? Chances are you will need a luxury travel trailer or fifth wheel for your adventures on the road.

On the other hand, if you don't mind eating the same thing three nights in a row and occasionally starting the day without a 20 minute hot shower then a simpler, compact camper will probably serve you quite nicely.

Even a small travel trailer can be a significant investment even if it will pay for itself over time. It is important that you choose the right RV for you and your family. One that is too small or lacks the amenities that you may expect when you travel can turn a nice vacation into a nightmare. Choosing a luxury fifth wheel that is simply too much RV can also be a burden. Take your time. Ask yourself where you want to go with your RV and how you want to get there and you will pick the right on for you.
