3 Things to do in SandownSubmitted by artavia.seo Thu, 17 Sep 2009
Dinosaur Isle is a small museum that has a plethora of exhibits including many ‘hands on' exhibits where you can experience the exhibit. They have a comprehensive fossil exhibit where you can view most and even get some rubbings of some of them. There are quiz sheets to test your knowledge. They also have two different lots for different age groups, in these lots you can dig for fossils in the sand and even feel fossilized dinosaur droppings. These exhibits are so comprehensive that you can spend hours there and only feel like you have spent minutes. If you've gone through the whole exhibit and you still want more, they also host fossil hunts on the beach with a guide to help you search. If you want a memento of your visit, they also have a nice gift shop with reasonably priced trinkets.
England's oldest vineyard is in Sandown. It is thought that this vineyard was originally planted by the Romans. Adgestone Vineyard is a good bit off the beaten path but if you are adventurous, you should be able to find it. They show a short film and allow you access to the cellar. After visiting the cellar there is a tasting area and a small shop. Also in the area is the Rosemary Vineyard. This vineyard is not as old, however the staff is friendly, the tastings are free and they have even provided a nice trail to follow through the vineyard. If you're in the shopping mode and you want something unique and pretty to take home with you, you may want to try shopping at Kaleidoscope, just up from Sandown Esplande. This is a little shop that is jam packed with amazing and unique pieces including kaleidoscopes, fossils and even some beautiful hand crafted jewelry. Their ceiling is bedazzled by a multitude of dream catchers. Also close to this little shop is a shop called Lilliputput Museum of Antique Dolls & Toys. This is a quaint little shop filled with doll lovers dreams and fantasies. There is a shop in the front that sells all sorts of quality dolls at reasonable prices. Down the hall is a museum of dolls that will captivate anyone wishing to relive part of their childhood, or doll collectors of all ages. This little shop has a lot to offer. Sandown offers many different attractions but non more inviting than its natural beauty that surrounds it. Want an inexpensive and wonderful way to spend your day, go to the beach. Enjoy the warm sand and the blue water.
