A river kayak safari in Jamaica

Submitted by Karen Thompson

Jamaica is blessed with warm tropical climate, stunning beaches along the spectacular coastline of the Caribbean Sea, and navigable rivers offering plenty of opportunities for water activities. One such activity that you can undertake is the kayak safari offered by Chukka Caribbean Adventures. Also if you are planning a visit to the island, you may wish to consider staying in rentals comprising Jamaica villas, cottages and apartments that offer more facilities, space, freedom, privacy and services than hotels and at costs that are more affordable than them.

The one hour kayak safari on the White River takes you past the Old Spanish Bridge built by the first European settlers in the 17th century. En route, you can also paddle your way through crystal clear pools and rapid under the canopy of bamboo groves and lush green tropical vegetation.

Along the way you will pass through scenic landscapes including quaint thatched huts nestling under the trees on the banks of the river. The tour then continues through enchanting lagoons and spectacular rapids. The kayak adventure ends near the Bamboo Cathedral where a giant bamboo arches over the water.

On disembarking, you will enter the beautifully landscaped gardens of the White River Valley. Here you can browse through the Valley Trader gift shop and shop for souvenirs, t-shirts and other keepsakes. There is also an eatery here by the name of River Valley Grill where you can sample the delicious Jamaican cuisine or enjoy iced cold beer, sodas and other colourful blended drinks at the Parrot Bar.

The minimum age to take the safari is 12 years; however, if you are traveling with kids who are small, you can do well by staying in accommodations that provide childcare facilities. Take the case of Silver Sands villas, located on the north coast of the island where this tour and also most of the attractions on the island are located. The villas especially cater to families and large groups and offer amongst other services, childcare facilities and also have a separate play area for kids. These villas encompass a private beach and offer the best services at the most affordable costs.

Karen Thompson worked in Jamaica for many years and once resided at the Silver Sands villas. She has very valuable experience with Jamaica villas.
