Gay Pride in London and New York

Submitted by martinrai

London a well known city all over the world and the capital of England also has quite a number of gay, lesbian and transgender population. To support this and for the people of the country to not get into any kind of discrimination, London supports every single person in the country the way they are. Be it lesbians, gays, bi-sexual or transgender. As a result of this London organizes LGBT parades every year since 1972.

The first Gay pride in London was known as the UK Gay Pride Rally and was held on the 1st of July 1972. The recent Gay pride event in London which happened on 5th July 2008 was named Pride London and had more than 825,000 people. London gay pride is a registered charity.

The Gay pride in London takes place for about two weeks and is fully organized by Pride London with hundreds of events like sports activities, art events, debates, etc.
The LGBT parades usually take place with great splendor. People from all over UK come to watch and be a part of this parade. The right to freedom, equality and the right to be with anyone who mutually understands a person are encouraged in these parades. The crowd participating in the Gay Parade increases every year by a huge amount.

New York City as well is a very good supporter of the LGBT Parades and thus conducts a parade every year known as the Gay Pride March or the New York gay Pride March. This parade was initially started in the 1970 and it is still and will remain being called a March until there is complete LGBT equality.

The March has events which go on for more than a week and is sure to gather a lot of people. The events consist of The Rally, The March, Pridefest, Dance on the Pier, Dance on the River and other Official Pride Events. The March starts from Fifth Avenue and ends at Greenwich Village and passes through by the site of the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street, the place where a police raid happened in 1969 which eventually agitated the Gay Rights Movement.

This celebration is open to all lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgender and regardless of any color or creed everyone is treated equally. The LGBT's flag which is of rainbow colors is sure to be seen everywhere you look around during this March. The increase in the support towards the LGBT movements only means that there are more people who are ready to treat everyone equally in all respects.
