Holidays on the Isle of Wight

Submitted by agilmour

Isle of Wight holidays are an experience never to be forgotten. If you have never visited this wonderful Island before, you really don't know what you're missing. A survey carried out by ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) has revealed that the Isle of Wight is one of the UK's top 10 destinations for British holidaymakers. The Isle of Wight is featured alongside major city destinations such as London, York and Edinburgh and are one of only four coastal locations listed in the top 10. The survey revealed that between May 2005 and April 2006, close to one million overnight trips were made by UK visitors to the Isle of Wight.

There is a wide range of excellent accommodation to be found on the Isle of Wight in either one of the lively towns or relaxed villages and many boast fantastic countryside or sea views. Whatever your preference, from luxury hotels to basic campsites, there is a wealth of superb places to stay to suit all tastes and budgets. Accommodation on the Island ranges from cheap and cheerful bed and breakfasts and guest houses, to luxurious country house hotels and you will find that all provide a holiday to remember. If you prefer a self-catering holiday, there is a great selection of caravan parks to choose from as well as cosy cottages to rent here on the Isle of Wight.

Another reason why Isle of Wight holidays are so memorable is the huge range of fantastic attractions and activities that are on offer. In fact, there is so much to see and do here on the Island, you will undoubtedly find that one visit is never enough. Walking and cycling on the Isle of Wight are popular past times because of the outstanding natural beauty here on the Island with over 500 miles of public footpaths including dramatic coastal paths. With the Isle of Wight being the sailing capital of the world, water sports are also a major activity, with Cowes Week being the biggest sailing regatta in the world. The climate here is almost sub-tropical and Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are regularly at the top of the UK sunshine table. Over 50% of the Island has been designated an "Area of Outstanding Beauty" with about half of the coastline named as "Heritage Coast" - an honour only awarded to the finest stretches of coastline in the country.
