Manchester Gay Pride FestivalSubmitted by martinrai Fri, 10 Jul 2009
One of the latest cultural capitals of UK would definitely have to be Manchester. It is now a rival to none other than London when it comes to the vast number of gay travelers. The money generated from the of Manchester gay pride has generated enormous funds which are helping several charitable organizations including those meant for the Lesbian - Gay community and HIV related organizations.
The Manchester Gay Pride does not only consist of the massive parade held during the weekend with the August bank holiday, but is a mega ten day event holding various events based on arts, music, sports and culture. The venue for the events is usually at the city center, which is also one of the major landmarks through which the parade passes through. The festival has a variety of events which change every year as different organizations are allowed to present their talents. Some of the events included in the 2009 Manchester Gay Pride festival include Cocque and Roll, An Evening with Clare Summerskill, Chamber Music and Twice Removed. The street market is set up during the weekend which is timed in accordance to the parade. Stalls for the market are highly sought after and quite undoubtedly the products for sale are one of the best in the city. From warm clothing to food, novelties to adult toys, several souvenirs can be purchased and it is a must visit for any person visiting the Manchester Gay Pride. An exhibition known as lifestyle expo, which is one of the most popular ones in Manchester, is held during this festival with the exhibits being displayed in two massive exhibition halls. Gay organizations use this opportunity to invite gay support by showing them what they can offer. NHS, Royal Airforce, Gay Wedding Show and several other groupsĀ are present to support the gay community. Besides cultural events, partying is the highlight of the show. And when the party starts, it never stops. The healthy gay scene of Manchester can be witnessed at any of the several clubs located on Canal Street. For a mere entrance fee of 10 pounds anyone can access the various clubs and participate in any of the events. The sum is used to cover the running costs of the events and to ensure another Manchester Gay Pride in the following year. Any excess collections are directly donated towards several charitable organizations having a different cause.
