Of all the possible reasons to go to Benidorm; the nightlife, the beaches, the weather, the cheap package holidays, there is one that remains somewhat understated and for this very reason, makes it worth a visit. The Old Town, in the Costa Blanca oozes history, with its cobbled streets and traditional white washed houses it retains authenticity in a place that has become best known for one of the top nightlife holiday destinations of choice. Along with the great party scene Benidorm offers and the action and activity that goes with, this antithesis will present people holidaying in Benidorm a welcome day or two out to relax, recharge the batteries and soak up some culture.

Charming, quaint and still untouched the Old Town offers authentic terraced cafes and patisseries where you can sample the local cuisine from Tapas to Paella. Take a stroll along the cobbled streets and enjoy the artisans market which offer beautiful ceramics, paintings and locally produced gifts at very good prices. Positioned between Levante and Poniente beaches, The Old Town is built on a headland which is well worth a visit, once there you'll get to see the fantastic views across the entire city.

Scheduling your holiday to co inside with one of 50 colourful fiestas the town has to offer will not disappoint. To a Spaniard each fiesta symbolizes the town they were born in, its own patron saint and its culture so fantastic celebrations are had. Romeria del Corpus is one of the most traditional Andalucian fiesta, held in June in the La Cala, Central Market and Old Town areas, it is led with horse processions and hosts a colourful fair next to the bullring. With bonfires and Paper Mache figures it is a lively and colourful fiesta full of atmosphere.

Whilst visiting the Old Town, you are in the perfect location to explore the neighbouring villages of the Isla de Benidorm and the historic towns of Calpa, Altea and Alicante which are all are rich in culture and history too. So, if you've booked your cheap holiday to Benidorm and fancy soaking up a bit of culture then remember that you don't have to look too far.
