Property to let in Leeds.

Submitted by agilmour

Leeds is the core and administrative centre of the larger encompassing metropolitan area of the City of Leeds.
Leeds became a city in 1893, but in 1974 it’s status was transferred to the larger metropolitan district of the "City of Leeds".
Therefore Leeds, although commonly referred to as a city, does not have the legal right to be called a city unless the wider area is being discussed.

Thomas Danby was the first Mayor of Leeds in 1662 and in 1970 Thomas Danby College was named in his honour. Since then there have been 240 mayors until in 1897 Queen Victoria allowed the city to have a Lord Mayor.
The Lord Mayor is elected every year in the spring by the members of Leeds City Council and is the Chair of the Council.

Attractions in Leeds
Here is a list of attractions you might be interested in if you were to rent a property in Leeds or stay in one of our exquisite hotels:

• The Corn Exchange - as its given name suggests, the building was originally created for corn in 1864 by Cuthbert Broderick (who also created Leeds Town Hall). The building is an ancient wonder of architecture, from inside, the dome structure and glass roof allows sound to travel and light to glisten into the building. The construction was renovated and then re-opened in 1990 to become a popular shopping arcade for original, funky boutiques, music shops and healthy cafés.
• 42 New Briggate Gallery - this gallery is a well loved part of the arts and cultural scene in West Yorkshire, and has been exhibiting works by artists from Leeds, Yorkshire and across the country for many years. The good looking art space is home to a great many varied and interesting pieces of artwork that cross genres and use a variety of mediums.
• Abbey House - a gatehouse to Kirkstall Abbey was also created by the Cistercian monks in 1152. After the gatehouse was closed in 1539 by Henry VIII, it became a place of residence for distinguished, upper-class Leeds families. In 1927 Abbey House was re-opened as a public museum. The building exhibits several primary sources from the Victorian period. It also has an interactive childhood gallery and offers the chance to walk through a reconstruction of Victorian Streets.
