Sarnia is a city in Southern Ontario with a population of about 90 000. It is notable for a couple reasons. First, it is the largest city on Lake Huron and secondly, it is located where the upper Great Lakes empty into the St. Clair river.

Sarnia is also home to Canada's second busiest US-Canada border crossing. The city is home to a number of industries and was one of the first places in North America to commercially drill for oil.

The close proximity to the USA is not the only reason people flock to Sarna, they have a number of exciting attractions:

1. Bayfest: Bayfest is an annual music festival in Sarnia that takes place each July. Since it's inception in 1999, the festival has grown from attracting a couple thousand people to 70 000 at last years event. The festival is known for its charitable donations.

It is also known for the top notch talent it brings in. Past headliners have included Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, ZZ Top and The Black Crowes. Bayfest continues to grow each year, 2009 will see a slight change to it's format. They will have 2 Bayfest weekend festivals this year, one dedicated to rock and one dedicated to country.

2. The "Blue Waters": Sarnia is part of an area known as "Blue Water Country". Sarnia is really defined by its massive expanse of water. The blue waters of Lake Huron hug the city and the large St. Clair river also nestles it's edges. This combination of water makes it a great spot for summer leisure seekers.

Beaches are in abundance in the city and around it. Sarnia is well known to sailing enthusiasts, having some of the best yachting to be found in Canada. There are many companies that offer cruises and chartered parties. Anglers will love Blue Water Country as well, especially the salmon derby held each year.

3. Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre: The Sarnia Sports centre has been operating since 1998. It serves as one of the regions major sites for sporting, entertainment and trade shows. The SSEC features two OHL size ice rinks, with a full service restaurant that overlooks them. It combines that with 43 corporate suites and seats a respectable 5 500 people.

It has played host to some big names in the music word - including the legendary Beach Boys. The SSEC is the perfect spot to catch some sports or music. It is also a great spot to plan your next corporate event.

Sarnia is well rounded, it is home to a number of great restaurants and museums. All cties have museums and restaurants though. The difference in Sarnia is the amazing geographic location. It is just a short jaunt over to the US if that is your thing. If you stay on the Canadian side you will be treated to some of the nicest waters and beaches in Southern Ontario. Remember to check out the great sunsets over Lake Huron as well.
