Your mind and body has been asking for a break, a respite from the pressures of work, the demands of family responsibilities, and the stress of living the busy city lifestyle.

So you did what anyone else would do. You searched the internet, asked around, and finally made up your mind and that is you’re going to have your vacation in Algarve, in the alluring Iberian country of Portugal.

If you’ve done your research well, you’ve most likely have a rough outline of your Algarve itinerary. If you’re not yet bursting with ideas and plans, I’ll make some helpful suggestions anyways on the top five best things to do while on vacation in Algarve.

So let’s get on with it.

1. Walking and Sightseeing - Algarve is a cosmopolitan with the right blend of country qualities mixed in, creating a kind of a surreal environment perfect for someone who wants to get away from it all, even for just a few days. Algarve is modern and rural at the same time; it also has a rich heritage and history. You will surely be a witness to this if you go around the backstreets and explore the Algarve on foot. Visit the Museu Regional in Lagos and the Museu Arqueologico in Faro for a blast to the past experience.

2. Golfing - Algarve has some of the world’s best golf courses such as superb Old Course at Vilamoura or the celebrated Royal Course at Vale de Lobo. A golfer can have the choice from 9-hole to 18-hole courses of the more than 30 golf courses scattered around the Algarve terrain. The southern region of Portugal has an ideal climate for golf, warm and dry weather, and the main season is from late autumn to late spring. The landscape is also excellent, grasslands to coastlines, proving to be a bit of a challenge but still a very satisfying game.

3. Shopping - Who doesn’t love shopping in another country? It’s a great way to enjoy and delve into the culture and tradition of Portugal and Algarve, in particular. You’ll surely find great bargains at the shopping districts of Portimao, Loule, and Quateira. You can find everything from souvenirs, bags, shoes, clothes, trinkets, accessories, and the list goes on.

4. Water sports - With a beautiful coastline and an even more beautiful water conditions, this vacation destination has a lot to offer for water sport enthusiasts. You can try your hand, and feet, at windsurfing or finally experience the wonders of the underwater world by diving into the thriving marine life and the legacy of Algarve’s sunken past. You can also enjoy jet skiing, sailing, boating, or just swimming and enjoying the Mediterranean waters.

5. Food tripping - Come on, when you’re on a foreign country, or even just in a different part of your country, what’s the first thing you want to know? How’s the food, right? We are all curious as to how the culinary delights this side of the planet looks like, smells like, and most of all, tastes like. You’ll be in gastronomic heaven with the unique taste of the Algarve cuisine and definitely your Algarve experience will not be complete without trying their cataplana, a local shellfish delicacy.

I bet you now have a very good line up of things to do once you set foot on Algarve. I know you’re going to take those suggestions seriously, simply because they’re really good tips and you’ll be able to enjoy your vacation more if you follow two or three or even all of those tips.

Enjoy your vacation, forget your responsibilities for while, and loosen up. Savor the Algarve experience.
