Cold... colder... even colder... for the heat-loving southern people Trondheim might seem a bit «too chilly», especially in winter. On the other side, this is definitely the city worth visiting.

Trondheim is the largest city in central Norway. During the medieval times, when it was the country's capital, there was a magnificent gothic Nidaros Cathedral constructed in Trondheim, which is nowadays the city's main attraction. Trondheim, with its wooden houses and cobbled streets, art galleries and commercial centres attracts thousands of tourists. But, despite the city's advanced age, its not that rich in sights. Why? That's because it faced numerous fires, wars and invasions.

Trondheim is the place where Norwegian kings are crowned, where princesses get married, and where royalties are consecrated — all this happens in its Nidaros Cathedral. The cathedral looks rather cold and even a bit severe, but, at the same time, its very beautiful. Its modern looks differ from that of the past. Its hard to say what it looked like at the beginning, because it was burnt and ruined several times as well. There is a spot in cathedral all studded with coins. One legend says that if you make a wish and throw a coin there, it will surely come true.

There is also another place in Trondheim that is said to make your dreams come true. Even if you don't believe in «fairytales» like this, why not try? The only thing you have to do is to cross the Old Town Bridge over the river Nid and go into the Lykkens portal, or the Gate of Happiness. Not that difficult, isn't it? My next advise would be to walk along the old narrow streets of the city and look at the «Scandinavian-style» houses. It seems that despite all the fires local people still prefer living in wooden houses.

Having done all this, why not head for the mountains to drive in a sleigh, take part in a competition to jump over the fires (may be that is the right place to make a wish?) and try rolling down the hill, lying on some board instead of a sled. But be careful!

Trondheim is the city of sagas and traditional stories, the centre of Norway, the pilgrimage spot, the regional capital, commercial centre and the city of knowledge. The ancient city rich in traditions and, at the same time, the modern destination with a number of universities and research centres. What about eating in Tronheim? Well, the tastiest dishes are prepared of fish. If you don't like fish — I pity you, honestly. As for drinking, you should definitely try Norwegian beer. Norway offers a rich choice of beer types, but mind that many people say that the prices are high.

Still, men say that Norwegian women are the best thing you can see in Trondheim. Judging by some «historic» movies, Norwegians kidnapped women from England. But what's the use of doing that if local women are no less beautiful?

Trondheim is easily reachable by car, train, plain or a ship. The city is full of adventures and attractive offers: restaurants, nightlife, shopping, attractions and other entertainment. Trondheim is a big town, or a small megapolis, the city where two generations — the old and the young ones — meet.
