Visiting South Africa: Is it Worth it?-00-527

When considering an international vacation destination, it is easy to get lost among all the advertising thrown at you. Many destinations are popular by nature, and are constantly promoted as a result of this. However, there are some lesser known destinations that are worth considering.

The greatest concern when planning such a trip is the possibility of wasting money on an unpleasant trip. Besides having to spend hard earned money, there is also the question of lost time: Most people are only eligible for a holiday once a year, and a bad vacation means having to wait another year for another chance.

South Africa has been steadily becoming more and more popular as a tourist destination, for a variety of reasons. The main reasons would probably be the weak exchange rate, and the variety of entertainment available in a relatively small space.

The weak exchange rate, approximately one tenth of the value of a US dollar, makes it a very affordable destination in terms of accommodation, meals and entertainment. Many people have even decided to build holiday homes and return regularly.

The variety of entertainment value is quite astounding for such a small country. A multitude of unique rich cultures and a complex history makes up a very diverse community. Diverse landscaping, from desert landscapes to dense forests and majestic mountains, offers a unique opportunity to photographers, both amateur and professional.

The diversity of wildlife is quite astounding. Spanning a range of sizes, it includes animals smaller than your hand, as well as elephants, giraffes, rhino's, lions, leopards, and more. With a number of national parks created for conservation purposes, all of these animals are easy to access and observe.

To top it all, by being located in the southern hemisphere, its summertime falls in the middle of winter of Europe, America and Asia, making an ideal destination for a winter vacation.
