The city of Dubrovnik (latin: Rausium later Ragusium, Italian and German Ragusa) is a city in southern Croatia in the Adriatic. The city is due to their cultural significance and the centuries of special political position often referred as "the pearl of the Adriatic" and "Croatian Athens'.
In 1979, the 60,000-inhabitant town, was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Croatia or even the "paradise on earth", as George Bernard Shaw noted. The traveler must necessarily form his own unique image of the city, which was built in the 7th century on a rock, which is surrounded by sea on three sides. And here was a thick wall built around the city to protect it against rivals and enemies.
This city, which had its heyday in the Middle Ages still offers numerous sights and treasures of world rank. But only to walk through the medieval streets of the Old City, is a benefit for themselves.
The 250 cloudless days a year, invite to spend long evenings in beautiful garden-clubs and open-air restaurants in summer and in winter.
(Even in February - the coldest month of the year – there is still an average temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.)

Do not miss the following attractions:
- Big Fountain of Ononfio

- Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Treasure

- City Walls

- Dominican Monastery

- Dubrovnik Franciscan Monastry / Franjevački samostan

- Dubrovnik Rector `s Palace / Knežev Dvor

- Dubrovnik Square of the loggia / Loza

- Of Fort St.John / Tvrda Sv.Ivana

- Pile Gate

- Ploce Gate

- Stradun of Dubrovnik / Placa
Moreover, there are offered following excursions in Dubrovnik for which it is worthwhile to sacrifice his time:

- Island Lokrum

- Cavtat

- Water mills in Gruda (Konvale)

- Trsteno

- Elafite Islands

- The island of Korcula

- Bay of Kotur (Montenegro)

- Mostar

- Medjugorje (place of pilgrimage)
You can find numerous well-organized trips with multilingual guides.
Who would like to explore these regions independently, will be adviced to do this with the car (especially at a planned visit to Montenegro, Mostar and Medjugorje). The areas are usually very wide and it is good to be flexible. Otherwise there are few ferries and buses driving to major attractions. You can also rent bicycles, scooters, cars or boats.

But who just wants to relax, can do this on many beautiful beaches, which have achieved a high quality EU standard. Alongside beautiful beaches belonging to hotels Dubrovnik offers beautiful public beaches. Some of them are very well known like e.g. "Copacabana Beach".
Dubrovnik offers numerous CULTURAL EVENTS such as the "Dubrovnik summer festival" (Dubrovacki ljetni festival)
This summer festival is held every year from 10 July until August 25

It is the largest and most representative cultural event in Croatia: An international music, theater and dance festival in a city which has a centuries-old cultural heritage. There are 80 drama, ballet, opera and music events taking place in a unique ambience of the Renaissance and Baroque.

Dubrovnik is also celebrating some CULTURAL DAYS
The most imprtant cultural day is the feast of the Holy Patron of Dubrovnik St. Vlaho .
There are several events organized in honor of the patron St.Vlaho on every 15th February.
If you pay a little bit attention, you will see St.Vlaho all over the city. There are numerous figures of him on buildings and flags and it seems that he is looking over the small streets and major boulevards - as he still wants to protect his city from evils.

And there is one more very important event: The International Film Festival
Yes, this filmfestival (DIFF - Dubrovnik International Film Festival) is held in Dubrovnik. DIFF shows a selection of productions of internationally important cinematic works in the categories of fiction, documentary and short film.
How to reach Dubrovnik

The coastal road from Rijeka is very curved, therefore the 600 km require more time than usual. Since the completion of the highway A1 to Sestanovac you can reach your destination much faster. Even the bridge "Tudjman Bridge" on the north of the port of Gruz, will save one's journey around the Bay of Rijeka Dubrovnik.

The car ferry from Rijeka, or its stopovers bring travelers stress-free to their goal.
The ferries run into the port Gruz, which is three kilometers from the old town away.
Cruise ship with tourist stop in this port, the local fishing boats and yachts from the High Society. Who even has no boot can hire here one or take one of the ferries (they regulary drive to all islands)to the islands Elafite for a small amount. Or you can simply look at the hustle and bustle, while you relax in one of the cafes with a glass of good Croatian wine.

You can also arrive by plane from almost all regions of Europe, because:
since 1995, the Cilipi airport is active again.
