Free Tapas in GranadaSubmitted by fay@zettagroup.com
I could not quite believe my ears when my husbands Spanish Aunty told me that when you visit a tapas bar in Granada city every time you order a drink you receive a whole plate of tapas for free! She it was one of the reasons that Granada was her favourite city in Spain. So we went there to see for ourselves.
Examples of Free Tapas in Granada City: " Sardine " Chorizo " Chips " Bread " Olives " Calamari " Chicken wings " Nuts " Cured Ham " Cheese " Salad " Potatoes in garden mayonnaise " Meatballs " Claims in wine and garlic sauce " Croquettes " Anchovies fried in batter After finding and checking into our hotel we decided that a glass of good Spanish wine would be in order. Just across the road from our hotel was a typical tapas bar which seemed to be busy considering it was mid afternoon on a Friday. I ordered a glass of house red (Vino Tinto), and it was nothing like a house red back home; the quality was superb. Then, just as Coral had said the barman started to plate up an assortment of food. Now it was not like back home where the most you will get is a small bowl of ready salted crisps or left over roast potatoes (and that is for the whole pub)! These tapas were top quality produce, the type that you would pay money for elsewhere in Spain and allot of money for in England. I am telling you it is worth visiting Granada just for the free tapas! We were first given cured ham which was cut off a pig's leg which had been hanging from the ceiling in the bar. Some pistachio nuts, goats cheese, a few slices of fresh baguette with olive oil (instead of butter). Over the moon with my free find, I gleefully drank my wine and enjoyed arriving on holiday. When the wine was finished we thought 'why not have another?' we were on holiday after all. And along with the wine came another plate of yes you guessed it free tapas! This time with different food on, even better I thought. We were given some chicken wings with a tomato based Spanish sauce, deep fried calamari (squid), more fresh bread, and some olives. Now I am usually delighted with a half price item in a ladies clothes store, but to be given free good quality food thrilled me! Over the holiday this particular tapas bar became our 'local' the people watching was just as good as the wine and tapas. The people were friendly and even the business men and women were so relaxed, an unusual sight for a Londoner! Granada Tourist Information About the Author
