How to Get Airline Upgrades

Submitted by Jonathan101

Consumers all want airline upgrades to enjoy first class and if you are trying to become a part of that elite group of people who get to fly first class all the time, don't be discouraged. There are ways to be able to do this without breaking your bank account, as you will soon see. With a bit of creativity, you will soon be flying in that coveted first class seat.

Now while it does not work a large percentage of the time, you can try just asking the ticket agent. Although it is rare that you can obtain your airline upgrade this way, you will not know unless you ask. However, you CAN ask the ticket agent to add a code to your ticket which will make the gate agent aware that you are eligible for an upgrade. If you know the correct code, this just might work.

Airline competition can work in your favor when trying to get an airline upgrade. This works especially well if you are late due to a competitor's flight not arriving on time. Be sure to tell the ticket agent and you may be awarded that upgrade.

Don't be ashamed to use any connections you might have with the airlines. Knowing the right person can get you all kinds of fun things. This includes a better seat on the plane. It may sound like a simple plan, but it works a very large percentage of the time.

Once you are actually on board the plane, flight attendants can be your friend. They have the authority to change your seat for you as long as there is a valid reason for it. So if you find that your seatbelt doesn't work properly, or you are seated next to a "problem" passenger, let your flight attendant know that you would really appreciate being moved to another seat. You just might end up in first class that way.

The way you dress is also important and can be effective in obtaining flight upgrades. It is easy to understand how someone dressed in a nice pair of slacks and shirt will be upgraded before someone wearing ripped jeans and a t shirt.

These are a few ways to get a free airline upgrade to get you started. Once you get in the habit of trying to make your traveling more comfortable, these will be a natural part of your flight routine.
