Manila is the major city of the Philipines, a
Country consisting of islands in Southeast East Asia. Manila is both a city, and a wider metropolitan area that incoroporates Manila town in addition to sixteen other municipal localities. Manila town is the second largest town in Philipines, after Quezon town. Quezon town is additionally a part of Metro Manila, and is the former capital of Philipines. If you look at a detailed street map of Manila, you will know that those two towns form the center of Metro Manila.

Manila is a seaside port town, lying on Manila Bay. It is the primary ocean port of the Philipines. Almost all of Manila town rests on alluvial deposits of the Pasig River, with other land that is reclaimed from the bay. Manila is in every respect an ocean town, and its Pacific ambience and muggy air will remind you about that all the time.

Manila town has a total population of 1,660,713 all crammed inside a tiny space of 38.55 square kilometers. If we add all of Mtropolitan Manila the number of people increases to a stupefying 11,553,427. The population density of the Metro area is significantly lower at 12,550 folks per square kilometer. Compare that with Tokyo's population density of 10,087 folk per square kilometer. Because Tokyo isn't a single town but instead a urban area like Metro Manila, the density of Tokyo and Manila are comparable.

Metropolitan Manila actually is massive, and each of its municipalities on its own makes up an enormous town. Manila town by itself is split into sixteen local districts. Each of those sixteen districts has its own unusual features and flavors and are fun to explore and get an understanding of. Intramuros is the location of old Manila, with a historic flavor. Binodo surrounds the Chinatown district. Ermita and Malate are wealthy areas where many Western hostels and higher class shopping malls are located. And the areas of San Miguel and Pandacan are host of the capital's govt pavilions and the President's official living place. With all of these varying and exotic neighbourhoods, it's easy to pass several days exploring Manila before you move on.

Manila is an overwhelming metropolis for the visitor or newcomer. But with a
