See Better This Holiday Season

Submitted by Ben Theismann
Thu, 13 Nov 2008

The holiday season is the busiest time of year for most people. With company parties, family gatherings, and other events stretching from November through early January, it can be easy to forget to take care of vision health issues. Here are a few tips to save you money, time, and take one thing of your to do list.

- Check your prescription to make sure it doesn't expire by the end of the year. If your prescription has expired, you won't be able to order contact lenses before you travel this holiday season without visiting your optometrist.

- If you do have an expired contact lens prescription, make sure to get an appointment before Thanksgiving. December is normally a very busy month for most people so getting the appointment set now will save you a headache later.

- Order your contact lenses ahead of time. Prescriptions take time to be verified and accurately filled. If you order at the last minute, you may not receive prescription contact lenses before your holiday travel dates. Ordering ahead of time will also save any express shipping charges which could add an additional $25 or more to your contact lens purchase.

- Traveling by plane? Don't forget that FAA regulations limit the liquid container size to 3 fl. oz. or less. Stock up on travel size bottles so your $20 jumbo bottle of contact lens solution isn't tossed in the garbage by security.

- Flexible Spending Accounts expire December 31. If your company has FSA benefits, make sure to use all of the funds available by the end of the year or you lose the money forever. Contact lenses and most other vision care items are flex spending eligible.

We hope these few simple tips make things easier for you. Enjoy the holiday season.
