Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt offers a fantastic mix of history and relaxation

Sharm El Sheikh is situated at the southern end of the Sinai Peninsula, overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba. As is true with most of Egypt, there are plenty of historical sites to visit. You have St. Catherine’s Monastery, old but very well preserved. There are lots of bones to see including part of St Catherine’s finger. Those who know the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments can visit Mount Sinai to see where he carried the two tablets down and try and find the third tablet that he apparently buried since he was unable to carry it.

Egypt is famous for its pyramids. You can visit them if you are holidaying in Sharm El Sheikh, however I do have to warn you it is five hours by bus. Many have said it is worth the trip. If you have had your fill of site seeing then Sharm El Sheikh offers miles of beaches to sunbath and relax on. There are also plenty of diving sites along the beach to choose from, the diving here is likely to be among the best you will ever experience. Some diving sites will be busier than others so it is best to plan ahead to ensure a good day out, there is 10 miles of beach so this shouldn’t be too taxing.

If you are want to be a diving instructor then consider Sharm El Sheikh as it is one of the cheapest places to obtain a PADI (Professional Association of Driving Instructors) qualification.

There are three regions in Sharm El Sheikh: Sharm El Maya, is the old town of Sharm El Sheikh featuring a beautiful beach with new five star hotels been recently added. Ras Um Sid Cliff is a cliff top that links Sharm El Maya to Na’ama Bay. You will find many cafes, shops restaurants and bars in Na’ama Bay.

Sharm El sheikh has got its fair share of global brand restaurants but do try the local dishes. Egyptian people are very friendly and will appreciate you making the effort in sampling their food and way of life.

If you do go for one of the Sharm El Sheikh holidaysthen ladies do remember that it is a Muslim country so dress appropriately when visiting the town. The atmosphere is pleasant in Sharm El Sheikh, the high security presence ensures locals and tourists aren’t rolling about the streets drunk!
