Tent Life

Submitted by David Salt
Mon, 2 Nov 2009

With Britain heavily into its biggest recession for years, many tourists have turned their attention away from long foreign holidays and turned their attention to short, down to earth, camping holidays. This really is a cheap and exciting alternative. For those who are still not convinced, this may help give you a feel of what to expect and might just give you that little bit of extra persuasion.

Arriving at the holiday park the first thing to do would be to set up camp. Ensuring that you have a good dry spot is crucial and the erection of the tent should be easy for those who can follow instructions. Most parks now have excellent facilities, including playgrounds, swimming pools, sports facilities, bars, restaurants and arcades. Familiarising yourself with your surroundings is a way to make sure you make the most of what the park has to offer.

Lunch is up to you. You can have as much to eat as you want and that is usually the general consensus of most of the camping world. Everyone's favourite meal is anything cooked on a bbq. Disposable bbq's are a cheap way of cooking whilst camping. And if this is not your forte then the park will have many places to eat. Failing that the surrounding area will be covered in restaurants.

To keep yourself entertained you can plan day trips to surrounding areas. Most holiday parks are located near coastal towns or in places that harbour lots of activity spots. Walking along the piers and enjoying some fish and chips sounds appealing to camping's harshest critique. Camping is supposed to provide you with a sense of escapism; it is perfect for those of you who enjoy exploring new places and marvelling at what these picturesque towns and villages have to offer.

The nightlife can provide lively entertainment. Most parks provide acts in their very own clubs and bars and if this is not for you, the local towns will have plenty of entertainment.

So for those sceptics, a family holiday spent in a tent can offer a variety of activities to ensure you enjoy your camping experience. Try visiting a country with beautiful landscape - France holidays are renowned for being some of the best venues to go camping. Who knows it might even persuade a few to make the trip an annual event long after the recession.
