The Secrets to Airline Upgrades

Submitted by Jonathan101

There are steps you can take to become one of those elite first class flyers, and secure you're route to airline upgrades. They aren't as hard as you may think. It just takes a bit of ingenuity and charm most of the time. The following methods are some that work a high percentage of the time to gain those airline upgrades.
1. You can try asking the ticket agent nicely. Take a minute to roll your eyes at this and keep reading. If you think this will not work, you would be correct 99 percent of the time. However, by asking the ticket agent to add a code to your ticket will signal the gate agent that you might be eligible for an upgrade. As long as you know the right code, this has a good chance of working.
2. If you have nearly missed your flight because of a competitor, make sure you let the ticket agent know. You have a great chance for an airline upgrade because THIS airline will want to make itself look better to you than their competitor.
3. It might be a case of who you know. Be sure to use whatever connections you have with the airline you are flying on. This can work a lot of the time, but only if there are not first class seats that can still be sold.
4. Travel agents can sometimes get some perks when flying. This might include a free airline upgrade to first class. Be sure to show the ticket agent your travel agent ID when checking in.
5. Once you have boarded the plane, the flight attendants become your means to a happy end with regard to airline upgrades. For example, if there is a genuine problem with your seat, as in the seatbelt doesn't work, you could be moved to first class, providing there are no more available seats in your area.
6. Become a member of a frequent flyer club. Your frequent flyer miles will add up and offer you a free airline upgrade.
7. Check in early for your flight. If you happen to have some sort of elite status, and someone else has the same, the one who gets there first will gain the upgrade.
8. Dress the part of someone who deserves to be sitting in first class, as in no jeans and t-shirt.
9. You can buy an upgrade. Some airlines will offer an upgrade for a discounted price.
10. If you fly a lot, get acquainted with the airline personnel. This can be to your advantage should a delay occur.
Now that you are armed with the right information, the next time you fly the friendly skies, obtain your own airline upgrade.
