As would be fit any major country in the western world, hotels in Galicia and Northern Spain are spacious, comfortable and clean. The categorisation for the hotels is awarded on a star system and these are allocated by the regional tourist authorities.

If it is luxury that you are after then the best advice should be to head straight for the exclusive hotels and “Paradors” but to be honest even the basic family “casas rurales” are extremely good value for money.

In this article we are going to take a look at the Pazo de Castro.

The Pazo can be found at 32300 O Castro - O Barco de Valdeorras - OURENSE

As of the time of the writing of this article the contact telephone number for The Pazo is +34 988 347 423 and the fax number is +34 988 347 482.

At the time of the writing of this article, the manager to contact for information would be unknown and The Pazo has the following number of rooms: 18.

As the Pazo de Castro situated in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra (the well known monastery laden banks of the river Sil), you will be ideally privileged to be able to enjoy the magnificent local wildlife of the Sil and Cabe Gorges but also to discover the numerous monasteries and churches that make up one of most important formations of its kind in western Europe. The region is also one of the most historical wine producing areas in this part of Spain.

Like all Pazos, there is a fair amount of history surrounding the building and in this case it is the following. Pazo do Castro takes its name from the village in which it is situated and which was the most important town in medieval Valdeorras. The building of the House and Chapel was started in 1630 by Don Pedro de Losada y Quiroga. More than three centuries later, the house, now declared a building of artistic historical interest, has been restored for tourism with all the comforts of a luxury hotel.

With regards to the actual facilities that the Pazo has to offer they are as follows: 14 double rooms, 3 double rooms with Jacuzzi tub, 1 suite with Jacuzzi tub.

All usual mealtimes are observed at this Pazo and they are, Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

As well as the individual room facilities, this Pazo has the following shared amenities and facilities: Restaurant. 2 private dining rooms, Conference room, Library, Carriage museum from the Pazo, Spacious lounges with antiques, Indoor pool. Sauna.

Outside you can find the following amenities for guests: Chapel, Historical box hedged gardens, Tennis court. Paddle tennis court..

The immediate geographic location for this Pazo is as follows: Without leaving Pazo de Castro, one can enjoy different informative activities because the library is ideal for a quiet read; the coaching museum contains carriages that date back to the 17th Century. The harnesses and antique coaching gear and other mementoes remind you of an earlier age, an age of elegance and simplicity. The covered pool allows the visitor to take a dip at any time or season. The garden boasts historic box hedges and the large stretch of meadowland adjacent to the house is great for walking or cycling trips.

With regards to the scenic location for the Pazo, it is extremely well located. You can even explore the surrounding countryside by quad bikes or go canoeing on the River Sil. Take a trip on a Catamaran or try potholing or paragliding..

If the above are not enough for either you or your family then you will find within close proximity the following facilities; Bicycles, Hiking, Canoeing, Catamaran sailing or Paragliding.
