If you've been to the Isle of Wight before but you're going back again and looking for something a little bit different to do, why not go to the donkey sanctuary? The sanctuary was established in 1987 as a way to help any donkey that was suffering or in distress. Donkeys that have been mistreated come to the sanctuary, as do donkeys that people just can't afford to keep anymore and have to get rid of. No matter what their past circumstances, they can all come to the sanctuary and get care. They're very gentle animals, and the donkeys that are the gentlest are available for visitors to interact with and pet. It's fun for the entire family, no matter what the age group, but if you have small children they can have a particularly good time interacting with the donkeys and seeing how they're taken care of in their new home. It's a great place for any animal lover to visit and it's also a naturally beautiful area, so you can enjoy the scenery while you're there, as well. No matter what else you've got going on when it comes to your Isle of Wight vacation, you can certainly take a day and go to the donkey sanctuary. It's well worth your time just for the experience of it.

If you want to help the sanctuary there are also ways that you can get involved, and that's true whether you're a local or a visitor so don't be shy about offering to help these animals and those who care for them. If the weather is bad, though, you might want to plan your visit for another day so you don't stand out in the rain. The donkeys probably won't mind, but you and your family and friends might. The donkey sanctuary is best enjoyed on a sunny day when the weather is good and you can be out interacting with the donkeys and enjoying their gentle spirit and inquisitive nature. They're very friendly animals and you don't need to be intimidated by their size. The caretakers at the sanctuary will let you know of any rules that you need to follow so that you don't get hurt, and that's especially true if you're bringing small children with you. If you have people in your party who have special needs of any king, be sure to tell the workers there so that they can accommodate you and make sure that everyone has a wonderful time.
