Industrial Pilgrimage—Come to Bangalore

Submitted by Thomas Grilla

Have you heard of Industrial-pilgrimage? Not yet, we're afraid. That is precisely the reason why South India Tourism thought of telling you a little tale.

The City of Bangalore in the Southern India that goes with many sobriquets has emerged a place where one could enjoy a vacation mixed with a lot to shop and learn of the modern spirit of industrial entrepreneurship.

First a short sketch on Bangalore. Located at the southern Karnataka, Bangalore is a sprawling City and Mecca of Information Technology. When we say some 100 of 500 Fortune Companies have shops in Bangalore, you can guess the enormity of its stature.

Also known as the 'Garden City' of India, Bangalore, the most vibrant city in India represents a staggering diversity of religions, cultures and traditions. Seventy Five percent of the 8 million plus city dwellers have come from other places. Two percent of them are foreigners working here. Some 5,000 small and medium industries, the most-literate working force which speaks English with ease as much as the vernacular are two other features of this great city. On account of its booming IT industry, Bangalore is called the 'Silicon Valley' of India.

It's also the educational seat of India. Almost all prestigious institutions of India and overseas have their presence here. India's space research centre and aviation headquarters are here. And, India's Microsoft—Infosys—and another IT-BPO major Wipro company are stationed in Bangalore.

But that is the Bangalore of today, and yet, its one leg is rooted in the past and tradition. It sports a great Race Course that nets an annual earning of INR 1000 Crores, a maginficent18-hole gold course and Tennis Academy. It was here the Great leader Winston Churchill began his momentous career. It was here the British established its firm foot in the southern region of India after overcoming Tippu Sultan's might.

This City has so many gardens that it had been known as a Garden City or Air-conditioned City for its cool climate. A bit of its sheen has been lost to the industrial expansion but it retains most of its regalia, thank God!

Popular attractions of the city include the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, the Tipu Sultan Palace, The Lal Bagh Botanical Garden (the largest of its genre in Asia), sprawling Cubbon Park, The Gangadhareshwar Temple; Bannerghatta National Park, ISKCON temple, Pyramid Meditation Centre and many more. It also has some of the best hospitals in the country where specialized services are available.

Shopping is a delightful experience in Bangalore. You can take home handicrafts -- sandalwood and rosewood -- available in state-owned emporia and private stores. For gold and jewelers, you can visit the quaint Jeweler's Street. Silk saris and silk fabric from Bangalore are a rage all over India. When you come to Bangalore, you would be enjoying the unique experience of being in the lap of nature and enjoying the thrills of the most modern pace life. Isn't a deal?

Bangalore is connected by air, rail and road to Delhi, Chennai, Bombay and Calcutta and to most other Indian cities and towns and also foreign countries.
