Napa Valley Wine Tours and All that you wanted to know about the wine and its vintage chart....Submitted by winecountryshuttle Wed, 7 Apr 2010
In Napa valley Wines are ordered and preserved from the vineyards based upon the year it was been produced. The main purpose of this vintage chart is to provide the ratings of the wines for each and every year to the wine lovers and their purchasers. This is done, so that the buyer will be very well informed about the wine which he/she has decided to purchase. In case, if there are cases of unfavorable ratings then this will be due to the damage of the crop as the grapes would have not been reaped properly.
In order to rate the quality and excellence of the different wines, the critics prepared a system of rating and this was decided based on the auction value of the wine. Wineries in Napa Valley are still following the traditional charts to rank the wines according to their perceived grade. The first traditional wine chart came into view in the year of 1855; this traditional chart was very much aroused from the majority of the French wines particularly from the regions of the Bordeaux region. A wine's vintage chart enlightens you about the grapes which were been harvested for year and its making. The vintage charts of the wines are generally a way to rate the wines on a numerical scale of 1-100, yet some are graded on 1-10 also. The shift in the climatic and the weather conditions affects the eminence and the taste of the grapes which were been yield from a particular region and thus this influences whether the wine will be labeled as good or bad vintage. The grade of the wines is allotted based on the taste, fragrance, the balance of sweetness, acidity and based on the other traits. One of the most important facts which have to be noted down is wines are segregate based on the region it has come from and the climatic condition in that regions. For instance all the French wines will be grouped and segregated under the same list as all such wines carves up from the same region. There are some disadvantages which are connected in this rating process by the vintage chart. It is very well known that this chart is helpful to assess the superiority of the wine. But for some reason it is considered as not a valuable instrument to rate the quality of the wine. Following are some of the reason why it is not advantageous: 1. As per the rating technique wine is graded based on its taste. But the fact is the taste and preference of each and every individual differs and it's not necessary it should be same for everyone. 2. As the rating is derived based on the average it is important to note down the fact that this system is sometimes dreadful as wines are very delicate as this method is not well suited.
