Simple Tips To Secure Your Second HomeSubmitted by willard_7ph Tue, 23 Dec 2008
When a person owns a second piece of real estate other than his main residence, it is usually refered to as Secondary home ownership. Secondary homes are generally used as a vacation home. Secondary homes were generally owned by the upper class. But now they are much more common among a more varied demographic.
Recent technology has made it possible for you to monitor and control the ‘other home’ automatically from where you are. Advancements in technology also have some impact on why people are buying second homes. Emails, cell phones and improved telecommunication allow employees to stay in touch with their employers even while they are on vacation. Installing a security camera system in your vacation home is one way to keep an eye on things. An unoccupied home is an easy target for the burglars who don't want an audience when they break in. You should not leave your second home or vacation home unoccupied for long. There could be a break in if proper precautions are not taken. You can qualify for a homeowner’s insurance discount if you install an alarm system that is connected to a monitoring service. You can install these devices called remote property monitors. You can remotely monitor and control the systems in your property using the controller. It can also listen to loud noises like smoke or intrusion alarms using digital signal processing to differentiate between an actual alarms or a loud noise. You can dial in and hear all sounds on the property from anywhere in the world; verifying the presence of an alarm, large water leaks, intruders, unauthorized parties, etc. You can even easily hear a whisper in the room more than 20 feet away from the unit. Best of all, these devices won't cost you nearly as much as a sophisticated camera system, but they can prevent problems or even alert you if something goes wrong in your remote property. This system comes with Caller-ID on Call Waiting capable telephone equipment, which can display information on the CallerID readout, making it perfect for the hearing impaired. The security system will keep you aware of what’s going in one at a glance. You can look at your home’s full system live, access event logs and make any changes whenever you want. Unlike analog security systems, digital systems give you maximum control over your security.
